In the early 1900 hundreds after migrating from Spain to Cuba my grandfather Ramon Gomez Arango established what was Called in Cuba un “deposito de tabacos” meaning a cigar deposit. The cigar deposit was a distributor of cigars and cigarettes that were manufactured in cuba. Being located in the central park of old havana, he supplied the local hotels, resturants, clubs, and cruiseships with the products. Before passing away in 1948, my father Benjamin Gomez Perez was already involed in the business as he continued the legacey until 1958 when the revolution nationalized all businesses in the country. After serving two years in prison my parents decided to leave the country in 1961. They left empty handed with a 10 month old infant and 7 months pregnant.
Soon after arriving in U.S. My father Benny Sr. began to do business with former customers that were interested in the idea of manufactering handmade cigars in the U.S. In 1963 La Roma Cigars was estabished. La roma cigars began manufacturing cigars in what is now called little havana or on calle ocho. After a few years of manufacturing cigars in Miami, a man by the name of Ernesto Perez Carillo Sr. was interested in purchasing the cigar factory. The factory was sold and it became the well known El Credito Cigars.
After the sale of the factory La Roma Cigars changed its name to Inter America Cigar Company which to the present date still produces quality cigars for the industry.
On behalf of the dedication, honor and involement in the cigar industry. I Benny Gomez Jr. Am introducing to you a product that representes a tradition of family and honor.
